When does my business need to buy Carbon Credits?

UPDATED! Purchasing credits for the first year was deferred. The first round of CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme purchasing was originally to be April 2011, with the carbon credits on sale at a fixed price of £12/tCO2. However, following the report in September 2010 by the Committee on Climate Change the UK Government announced in its October 2010 Comprehensive Spending Review that the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme would be simplified which included deferring first allowance sales for 2011/12 emissions to 2012.

This pushes out the timeframe for budgeting for allowance purchases for CRC participants by a further 12 months which may be a welcome deferral of cash outflow.

This round of allowance purchases will cover only the second year of the scheme - a previous incarnation of the scheme had intended to demand retrospective purchases for 2010 too, but this was dropped.
