After gaining a BEng (Honours) degree in Electronic Engineering at Westminster University, Spencer decided that sitting around in labs all day wearing a white coat was not the future he wanted. Being an outward looking person the idea of technical sales seemed more appealing as well as more financially lucrative.
A visit to a technical recruitment company confirmed this and Spencer was offered a technical sales position at PK Electronics. He quickly worked his way up to become UK Sales Manager before being given additional responsibility for the Middle East and Turkey.
When the opportunity to join Universal Power Systems came along in May 1999, Spencer had no hesitation in accepting the offer. The fact that Universal Power Systems had a reputation in the industry for delivering innovative and individually tailored power solutions and was not just an ‘off the shelf box shifter’ played a key part in this decision.
In his business development role inside the M25, Spencer has made a major contribution to expanding sales in this region with over £1.7 million of new business. This includes major organisations such as BP Amoco, Visteon and the Marsh Group, one of the world’s largest insurance companies. For the last five years, Spencer has operated as City Business Manager and is responsible for the company office located in Ealing, West London. This office covers both local sales and service support and accounts for close to half the company turnover.
In his spare time, Spencer spends as much time as possible with his partner and their children. He also enjoys visiting the theatre, ten-pin bowling and night-clubbing.
