Chris Smith, Sales & Marketing Director
| Chris started work as a technical apprentice with Zenith Electronics. As he neared the end of his five-year training he was persuaded to move to the sales department and quickly rose through the organisation to became product sales manager. His success did not go unnoticed and he was headhunted by the Phillips Corporation to work for their high volume power supply division, Hinchley Electronics. After two very successful years again the headhunters sought his services as National Sales Manager at Powernetics Ltd., a UK UPS manufacturer. During this time, Chris was approached by the Directors of Savin Electronics, an Israeli manufacturer of UPS systems, to set up a joint venture in the UK. In 1989, Savin UK was formed with Chris as Managing Director and the operation quickly grew to a turnover in excess of £4 million. Clients included many blue chip organisations and one of their resellers was Universal Power Systems (now on365). | ![]() |
Savin UK had a strong salesforce and Universal Power Systems (now on365) had a strong technical and operational skill-sets. Following discussions as to how to break the £10 million turnover milestone, Chris and Colin Richardson decided to merge Savin UK with Universal Power Systems (now on365) in 1994. Chris was then the natural choice for the role of sales and marketing director alongside managing director, Colin Richardson.
As they say, the rest is history. Since injury forced him to quit his love of rugby union, Chris is often to be found at his local golf course or taking time out for a quiet fishing trip.
