A*STAR choose on365 & SGI for Datacentre Assessment Service
Leading Singapore CRC uses SGI to find ways to save costs and extend datacentre life – A*STAR Computational Resource Centre
Customer Challenges
A*STAR was facing challenges with “Hot Spots” in its Computational Resource Centre. Like many organisations, there was also a need to achieve operational cost savings and consider ways to extend the datacentre life span and avoid failures. Lastly, A*STAR wished to find ways to prepare for future change and identify any limitations of the datacentre.
Solution
A*STAR engaged on365 and SGI Professional Services to perform a Datacentre Assessment Service, at their Computational Resource Centre, located in Singapore. on365, in conjunction with SGI conducted a comprehensive review of the datacentre. This included:
- Airflow measurements.
- Checks on computer room air-conditioning units.
- Heat loads from cabinet layout.
- Identification of restrictions in the computer room floor void plenum.
- Review of all computer room drawings and specifications and comparison to actual settings and readings.
- Review of final recommendations and report by Tim McCann SGI’s Chief Engineer.
Business Outcomes
- Recommended ways to achieve operational cost savings.
- Risks and limitations of the datacentre identified.
- Recommendations on ways to extend the datacentre life span and prepare for future change.
“We, at ACRC, are very pleased with the thorough review conducted by SGI Datacentre specialists. We needed an independent assessment of the current practices especially in view of possible energy savings, safety and crisis management. We also requested specific recommendations for our future Datacentre installations. The depth of knowledge and expertise of SGI consultants was very impressive indeed. Their recommendations and assessment have partially confirmed most recommendations of the contractor who built our existing Datacentre, but several recommendations were original and very valuable. The SGI review was intended to be an independent, at arm-length review and served its purpose admirably. It gave immediate impetus to our Datacentre contractor to implement almost all energy savings measures indicated.”
